Redesigning Zelt’s iOS experience and bringing essential web workflows to mobile — helping to more than double monthly unique users and increase retention by 20% in the latest month.

Problem
The web product had grown. Mobile had not.
The old app covered a few basic actions, but important journeys were missing or incomplete. Employees could not edit their profiles, complete the full e-signing flow or see upcoming rota shifts. The interface also felt outdated and navigation opened on Tools instead of a useful Home screen.
These gaps affected real work. One customer returned to DocuSign because mobile-only employees could not sign contracts in Zelt. Another reported that employees could not submit absence requests on iOS.
Decision
Close gaps & make it useful for everyday tasks
I combined customer feedback, support issues and navigation explorations into three priorities:
give users a useful starting point based on what needs attention now
let employees complete important jobs without moving to web
create reusable patterns for new modules, widgets and dark mode
A clearer hierarchy
for everyday work
The old design lacked both functionality and accessibility. I introduced accessible typography, semantic colours, and reusable card patterns across light and dark themes.
The main focus was on the most-used flows: the dashboard, absence booking, and calendar. I redesigned the dashboard around the employee’s day, bringing attendance, tasks, calendar, absence balance into one modular experience.
Bringing essential web workflows to iOS
From viewing to completing. The redesign expanded what employees and managers could finish from their phones:
contract review and e-signing;
profile editing and onboarding;
absence, benefits, salary, documents, tasks and Growth activities;
Timesheets and Schedule;
live attendance and shift management for managers.

The redesign changed more than the appearance of the app. Employees could complete important work from their phones, while the new foundation supported faster delivery of mobile features.
